Physical Quantities

AMAD includes support for physical quantities, provided by the open library JS-quantities.

Every data record in AMAD comes with a special metadata field called units, either parsed from an input file or assigned by the user. The system uses this information to perform on-the-fly data conversions and visualisation.

Note

there are two ways to deal with temperature units: temp-X and deg-X, where is C, K, F or R. Temperature units such as temp-X can be converted between each other correctly, however they cannot be used in compound units. For example, a thermal expansion coefficient has units of 1/T where T is intended as a change in temperature. In this case the correct units are deg-X.

If the user inputs invalid units the interface will show an error message. For parameters, values with unrecognised units will be treated as text entries.
